Since this blog is meant to be a raw, honest look at mothering, I figured I’d start with a look at the beginning of motherhood. Part of it at least. I’ve been on pinterest, mommy blogs, and pregnancy apps and none of the ‘Things No One Told Me’ articles prepared me for what I experienced after my precious boy came into the world. So, let me introduce you to the real shit no one, I mean no one, told me.
1. Your ass is going to hurt… and especially so if you had to have an episiotomy. It will hurt in any/all of the following situations:
It may be awhile until you can walk like you aren't someone's hand puppet. 2. Don’t be a hippy; Take the drugs, all of them Better yet, take everything they give you and be grateful. You WILL use all the crap they give you. If the nurse is nice enough to offer you extra pairs of the hospital's version of VS panties, take them! Way better to leak whatever is still coming out of you on those bad boys than on your real undies. 3. Clench and Sit: an art that must be mastered This one you’ll get by instinct after a few times of sitting down and feeling like you’re tearing apart at the seam. Inevitably there will be a time when you, being the exhausted new mama that you are, forget to clench those cheeks before you allow yourself to fall into a seat and instantly regret it. This is when those drugs will come in handy. 4. Ask for help; You will regret not asking.
5. Breastfeeding…
6. Your Breath will Stink
7. The crazy gets worse From constantly worrying about dropping your baby, to the more irrational fears of him being abducted, one or more of his tiny little bones breaking, or him spitting up in the middle of the night and choking on his own spit up because you failed to burp him sufficiently, your mind will swarm with crazy thoughts. Find someone to talk to:
Obviously, you get amnesia as to most of these things once you settle into life with baby, but I wanted to let you know what to expect because as they say - ‘hindsight is 20/20’.
